So Strange by Crush

Darkenin Heart

Shoegaze band Crush formed at university in Manchester in 2017 initially by singer and guitarist Amber Warren, and guitarist Arthur Boyd, later joined by their fellow students bassist Will Milton and drummer Fotis Kalantzis. After a few singles and a notable cover of Simple Minds’ Don’t You (Forget About Me), Crush began shaping their own expression with earlier 2021 single Chewed, followed by So Strange which is in the same heavier and moodier direction.

“A bulk of songs written since the pandemic began have been heavily influenced by DIIV, My Bloody Valentine and the Cocteau Twins, as well as artists such as Phoebe Bridgers,” says Amber Warren.

On So Strange, she comments: “It’s a dialogue in the first-person addressing anxiety in a cathartic defiance of the emotions that arise from it.”
