LA-based Viennese dreampop act Sugarplum Fairies will release Altar Songs 1998-2021, a collection of reimagined versions of their songs, and an exhibition of their evolution over the years. Sugarfree 2021 is the latest single from the album, representative of their warm dreampop, featuring the late Keith Mitchell from Mazzy Star on drums.
"Sugarfree is about that femme fatale that shows up at the end of your birthday party and not only steals the show but also your boyfriend," says Sugarplum Fairies frontwoman Silvia Ryder.
The single is matched to a music video composed of footage from the archives of iconic Viennese visual artist Mercedes Helnwein which gives the entire project a cinematic drift.
