Blushing Fill The Darkenin Heart Questionnaire
February 14, 2022
What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
Jacob: The final hours of The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
How would you characterize your own music?
Michelle: I feel our music is always addressing push and pull. Heavy and light, dreamy and dark. I like existing in this space and so if I had to characterize our music it would be like having a panic attack in a warm bubble bath.
What are your musical aspirations?
Michelle/Christina/Jacob/Noe: To tour internationally and keep putting out records.
What are your main musical inspirations?
Michelle: Pretty much any of the bands you may have seen on 120 Minutes between 1991 and 1997. The sweet and sour tangle of electric guitars and playful melodies is my favorite and the 90’s did that very well.
What are your main goals in life?
Christina: I really just want to be happy.
Michelle: I want to be able to look back at my life and feel it would make an interesting story. I hope to be able to continue creating music for many years and that music brings joy to even a small number of people.
What motivates you to create?
Michelle: Anytime I hear instrumental music I cannot stop myself from immediately creating a melody. It’s impulsive, automatic and provides instant gratification so my motivation comes from the innate drive to put melody and lyrics to anything I hear. I’m lucky to be in a band where everyone is constantly coming up with incredible music to put those melodies to.
Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
Michelle: Both unfortunately.
Jacob/Noe: Night owl.
Christina: I’m pretty chipper in the mornings.
Besides music, what other art forms would you like to explore?
Jacob: Drawing. Maybe I will make a comic book one day.
Christina: I love fashion and have always wanted to make clothing. I would love to work in the costume department for a period film!
Noe: Painting. I took a bunch of art classes when I was younger.
Michelle: My degree is in graphic design and I worked as a graphic designer many years ago. Occasionally with the band I get the opportunity to crack open Illustrator and it makes me happy to explore visual art any opportunity I get. It’s also incredibly humbling when I realize I’m not that great at it.
Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
Christina: Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Michelle: Smashing Pumpkins - Gish
Jacob: Silverchair - Frogstomp
Noe: Deftones - White Pony
What is the best decade for music?
Jacob: Now. Some of the best music you can see live is happening today. Also the 90’s.
What do your future plans include?
Michelle: We are releasing our second LP “Possessions” on February 18th, in March we are playing New Colossus Fest in NYC then SXSW in Austin and then going on tour in April. Our future looks very fun and very busy and then hopefully we will be going back into the studio because we already have an entire LP worth of new songs ready to go.
Possessions releases on February 18th, 2022 via Kanine Records
