Blank Field by Wilt

Darkenin Heart

Wilt, a fresh three-piece band from the UK, collaborate with Melbourne shoegazers Oceans to present their collaborative new self-titled EP which came together via online collaboration.

Consisting of Alex Sharpe, Tom Smithrosser, and Nathan Mcleish, Wilt worked together with the Melbourne husband-and-wife duo Tom and Mayzie Lee who make up Oceans, and created the expressive six-track EP. The new work follows Oceans' Come So Far which was released in 2021.

Wilt's dreamy and powerful instrumental compositions are combined with Oceans' somber and emotional vocal harmonies on the EP. Single Blank Field developed from the two bands' common love in shoegaze music shared via Reddit forums, evolving into a complete musical partnership between the two groups despite never meeting in person.

Oceans comment: “Blank Field took form in July 2021, starting off with the beautiful instrumental track recorded by Wilt. Almost immediately we felt that it would be well suited to a more unique duet style arrangement.

“We wanted to create a narrative that captured the feeling of relentless space between humans in eternal lockdowns, and the human desire for physical interaction. The Rose of Jericho is a flower that can survive long periods of drought by drying, curling into a ball but resurrects entirely when it is finally watered. We thought this was a nice analogy, giving a little hope to cut through the isolation and loneliness that we were all feeling during that second pandemic winter.”

The Wilt EP will be out July 1st, 2022 on Shelflife Records.
