We Will Live On, the new album from acclaimed producer and composer Deru aka Benjamin Wynn, will be released on Friends of Friends on October 28th, 2022.
Themes of heritage, loneliness, dejection, love, and optimism emerged against the prospect of news about the rapidly deteriorating climate crisis and pandemic solitude. We Will Live On is intended to be a question, asking whether or not we will succeed, and if technology will outlive us all.
The new album was created using a Disklavier, which is an acoustic piano equipped with solenoids that allow it to be controlled digitally. It was accompanied by software designed by Deru himself to sequence it. As a result, the piano leaves the impression of it playing itself.
The Way Through the Forest, which is classically based but very present, cycles through reiterating phrases as the piano overloads with data and subtle background textures.
