Drowning by Modern Stars

Darkenin Heart

Italian neo-psychedelic rock group Modern Stars are composed of Andrea Merolle, Barbara Margani, and Andrea Sperduti. Barbara is a lyric soprano, and both Andreas have played in a number of underground bands for a while. Modern Stars will release their third studio album Space Trips For The Masses on November 11th, 2022 via Little Cloud Records.

It comes after their sophomore album PsychIndustrial (2021), which is released by the Italian label Miacameretta Records, and their debut album Silver Needles (2020). The upcoming film My Soul Summer, which will have its world premiere at the upcoming Venice International Film Festival, also features music by Modern Stars.

Shoegaze and krautrock, enhanced with contemporary electronic elements are the main components of the band's sound. Describing their own music, Modern Stars say: "we want our records to sound like a journey, not just a collage of songs".

The first single from their new concept album, Drowning, is positioned halfway through the narrative when a space traveler realizes that there is no turning back from its destiny. The song's nocturnal atmosphere impacts the accompanying video, evoking the personal sense of oppression that results from having to conform to the societal expectations of the modern age.
