Asking by Chalk

Chalk are an emerging group from Belfast, Ireland, composed of Ross Cullen (vocals), Benedict Goddard (guitar, synth), Luke Niblock (drums). Chalk's image-driven musicianship is impacted by their filmmaking background. Their music videos, which they created themselves, demonstrate how their visual aesthetic evocatively combines with their sound.
Asking is the band's new track, part of their newly announced EP Conditions.
Cullen comments on the new single: “It’s a reaction to feelings of ours that look at the past and a longing for others who aren’t in your life anymore. How we grow as people and those we leave behind as a result. We wanted Asking to follow the recollection of someone whose memories are fading when trying to remember about someone in the past”.
Asking constructs its menacing mood on a groundwork of electronic sounds and distorted acoustics, mentioning influences like the individualism of Death Grips, conveyed through a low tone, devious vocal performance which brings to mind the indie post punk of The Murder Capital. The band's frequent collaborator Chris Ryan (NewDad, Enola Gay, Just Mustard) is once again handling production.
