Spirit Award Fill The Darkenin Heart Questionnaire
May 05, 2023
What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
I know I’ve heard other very dark songs, but one was Sufjan Steven’s ‘John Wayne Gacy Jr’. Saw it live in Chicago and it was so powerful and sad it brought me and I think hundreds of others to tears.
How would you characterize your own music?
I wish I didn’t have to? But I guess I would say it’s a blend of psychedelic post-punk.
What are your musical aspirations?
I think at this point in my career, I just want to be able to keep putting music out and playing shows. Anything else is a bonus.
What are your main musical inspirations?
There are a lot of tidbits from everything. Suicide, Can, Neu!, The Stooges, Spacemen 3, Interpol, The Walkmen, Richard Swift.
What are your main goals in life?
To love those around me. To enjoy the beauty that life has. To continue to make art and share with others this human experience we are all in.
What motivates you to create?
I think at this point it’s a necessity for my well being. But usually it just hits when it hits. Sometimes it’s seeing a show, watching a movie, driving my car, walking or going to sleep.
Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
Used to be a night owl, but I have migrated to a somewhat morning person.
Besides music, what other art forms would you like to explore?
I’ve explored a little bit with filmmaking and it’s something I’d like to do more. Getting back into film photography right now, and would love to work with ceramics.
Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
I’m not sure what the very first was. But I found a Steve Miller Band cd on someone’s lawn when I was really young. Now this isn’t exciting to most people, but I didn’t have much access to music at that time so it was a big win for me.
What is the best decade for music?
I think it depends on what kind of music. I think there are amazing things about many decades of music. I particularly love the late 60s/early 70s, then I would say 2000-2010 was like pure and fun and innocent.
What do your future plans include?
Touring in Europe/UK in the fall, working on some other projects, as well as producing and engineering some other peoples music. Also just living life, camping, hiking, and adventuring.
