Pieces of You by SGO

Darkenin Heart

Meanjin quintet SGO, previously known as syrup, go on, consists of guitarists Kris and Tom Briese, vocalist Liz Dick, drummer Lachlan Scott, keyboardist Matt Rosin, and bassist Emily Puxty. Their music is rooted in the warm dreampop genre and draws influence from bands like My Bloody Valentine, The Chameleons, and The Smiths.

SGO's evolution as a band is clear in their refined approach to instrumentation and production. Tom Briese's production choices are crucial to the implementation of a modern pop touch to the new track, Pieces of You, differentiating it from the norms of post punk and dreampop.

Pieces of You continues with the same themes introduced in the band's previous single, Bookcase, focusing on reflection, regret, and realization. The band is engaged in creating a spacious and bright atmosphere within a wistful backdrop.

In a sense, Pieces of You serves as a salutation to the band's earlier works, as SGO embraces the essentials that established them as a group.
