Doohickey by SMILE

German band SMILE have unveiled their latest single Doohickey along with its accompanying video. The new track serves as a preview of their upcoming debut album Price of Progress which was produced by Olaf Opal, and is scheduled to be released on October 13th, 2023 through Siluh Records.

In Doohickey, Smile produce a concise narrative about a grandmother with a hoarding habit, bringing the essence of both classic and modern post punk sensibilities. Their very good use of dissonant yet harmonious guitar melodies, along with an almost spoken word vocal approach, comes across utterly poetic and brings to mind revered post punk icons from various eras, spanning the eighties and nineties to the more contemporary aspects of the genre.
