Darkenin Heart

What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
There’s this song a friend showed me a long time ago called “chant d’eternite” by a French minimalist black metal artist who goes by the name Moëvöt. The song is this creepy and satanic sounding lo-fi chant that harmonizes in very dissonant ways. The harsh way it was recorded also really makes this song even creepier. It’s almost like you’re hearing a piece of music that wasn’t supposed to be recorded. (I think they actually took it down from any streaming site) I was told if you listen to this by yourself late at night, you can feel a ghostly presence behind you. I don’t know how true that is but it had a lot of impact on me hearing this as a kid. Even to this day, I think this song is one of the darkest and spookiest pieces of music I’ve heard.

How would you characterize your own music?
Indie Darkwave I’d say but I think at the depth of it, we’re very much an experimental genre bending band. At the end of the day, we try our best to take risks and try something new. This Korean goth sound we’ve been working at is an example of that. We’ve taken something familiar dropped it in a setting that is unfamiliar. We plan on doing that for the foreseeable future.

What are your musical aspirations?
We aspire to be as good as all the wonderfully talented friends and musicians we are constantly surrounded by.

What are your main musical inspirations?
Elliott Smith started it all for me back in highschool.

What are your main goals in life?
Right now, we just want to be able to quit our days jobs and keep making art.

What motivates you to create?
Lots of things. Movies. Songs. Video games. Friends. Going to local shows. Conversations. Sometimes I like to look at a scenery or something that catches my eye and dream upon it. Not necessarily analyze it but just observe its intricacies and beauty. That doesn’t directly inspire me but I think writing songs has something to do with a deep observational mindset like that.

Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
Early bird actually. I like drinking coffee in the crisp morning air.

Besides music, what other art forms would you like to explore?
I used to want to be a poet. Also when I was in elementary school, I would always say I wanted to be a horror film director when my teachers asked me what I wanted to be.

Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
Elliot smith self titled changed my life.

What is the best decade for music?
Honestly, now because creativity, music and art has been made so accessible to the general population. It’s not as gatekeepy like it used to be.

What do your future plans include?
I definitely want to focus on touring more often.
