James Francis was the lead singer of the cult band Strange Ones, a musician who mysteriously disappeared in 1993 from the island of Losse in Scotland while recording his debut album. The enigma around this case is artfully presented in the new album by Keening, inspired by the life and music of Francis.
In 2022, James Francis' parents handed Keening his tapes and diaries. The obscured recordings were not easy to comprehend as the artist had distorted and overdubbed them with found sounds from the island, leading to Keening opting to compose original music inspired by Francis' diary and music, as well as everything else surrounding his circumstances, rather than replicating the challenging original demos.
Disorder is the first song unveiled from this project. It is a post punk track that exudes solemnity and absorbing energy.
Keening's full album, James Francis Diaries, comes out on January 20th, 2024.
