The Wave by Kallai

Darkenin Heart

Portland four-piece Kallai has just announced The Wave, the first example of their forthcoming debut album, We Are Forever, set to release in Fall via Little Cloud Records. Since emerging in 2024, Kallai have presented their signature alt-rock-meets-shoegaze sound through a few incredible singles.

The Wave, along with the forthcoming album, sees the band reaching deeper into their exquisite creative approach.

Blending shoegaze textures with alternative rock energy, The Wave narrates a story about the passionate force of anger, as it was inspired by historian Susan Stryker’s essay, My Words to Victor Frankenstein Above the Village of Chamounix. At length, the song explores what it feels like to be cast as a freak by society.

The Wave and We Are Forever were recorded at Revolver Studios with Collin Hegna (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Federale) and at the band’s own Synthetikit Studio. The album expands Kallai’s style with electronic textures, string arrangements, and emotional piano lines, in accordance with their shoegaze roots.
