Alive // Dead by Lexicon Devil
September 23, 2025
Justin Pittney has spent years shaping music from the shadows, rarely being in the spotlight. He’s been the quiet force behind a wide mix of projects, bands, and collaborations. Along the way, he toured with the Buzzcocks and Pierced Arrows, the follow-up to Dead Moon, stood out with his garage rock outfit Love City, and shared the stage with The Horrors. He’s also half of The Devil Is Real alongside King Dude, plays in Shadowing with STRFKR’s Keil Corcoran, and has steadily built a reputation as a producer.
Lexicon Devil started as something almost different. Its first single, Alive // Dead, wasn’t meant for release but had Pittney experimenting for himself. Everything was tracked straight to analog tape, stitched together with worn-out drum machines and guitar layers that bend into strange sounds. The end result is unpolished, a song that feels urgent and haunted, showing how the grit of punk can co-exist with the brooding magnetism of gothic atmosphere.
“I didn’t want to make music for anyone else this time,” Pittney says. “I just wanted to have fun. I’ve been spending hours revisiting my favorite records DJing — everything from early blues to black metal — and all of that energy, dramatic and aggressive, is bleeding into these songs.”
