Vienna-based darkwave project Elastic Skies continues to echo the spirit of the eighties underground. With each release, they reaffirm their commitment to a sound that feels both nostalgic and forward-looking. Their latest track, Bough, is another magnetic entry in a growing series of track revelations, part of the EP II, and immersed in the restless drive to achieve.
“What remains meaningful, what belongs to the past?” are the questions Bough quietly poses, infusing its glistening textures with inner contemplation.
The track floats somewhere between dreamy, new wave-inspired synth based music and trip hop. While a reverb-heavy drum machine grounds the mood in a manner that's visceral and intoxicating, female vocals float through rippling synth arpeggios, and the result is exquisite.
