Chromosome EP by Chromosome

Fog & Co. exhumes a post punk remnant long hidden. It's the first-ever remastered reissue of Chromosome’s self-titled EP, and one of the earliest DIY post punk artifacts to surface in Israel.

Formed in 1981 by provocateur Rami Fortis and sonic dissident Doron “Shultz” Eyal, later joined by David Gervai and Rona Vered, Chromosome did not belong to a scene, but were characterized by their creative mindset and experimental approach. Their sound was difficult to analyze but intentional, and engaging on many levels. The five tracks preserved in the new reissue are documents, often improvised transmissions stitched together from live jams, mechanical rhythms, and fractured vocal experiments that refuse structural comfort.

The track Afrika stands as a moment of playful futurism, an improvisational synth experiment led by Rona Vered, her textures elastic and curious, already pointing toward her eventual role as a defining force in the Tel Aviv synth underground.

Chromosome were documenting themselves in real time, releasing the EP independently under the name TOV Production, cutting the conventional record industry out of the loop before it ever had a chance to interfere. The independent Fog & Co. simply turns the volume back up and throws light on a release that needs to be perpetuated.
