Deeper Graves Fill The Darkenin Heart Questionnaire
February 18, 2026
What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
I guess it's moderately objective and depends on how you mean by dark. Are we talking offensive, or are we talking emotionally intolerable? The first things that come to mind are those Mikko Aspa noise bands with the overtly pedo/rape type contents. I'm fine with shock value, but I think those check off both; and not remotely interested in revisiting.
How would you characterize your own music?
I'm trying to do something different with every release, whether that be a cover, a single, or an album. Generally speaking, it's a mixture of metal, mixed with post punk, electronic/industrial and ambient works. I'm just trying to present a vibe, a feeling throughout instead of shooting for genres.
What are your musical aspirations?
I gave up on rock star aspirations a long time ago. The full time touring of my 20s and 30s is long gone. Streaming and the current state of a flavor of the week industry doesn't really excite me at all. I'm just trying to put out good records.
What are your main musical inspirations?
Nirvana was the first band that really got me in my early teens. The Cure's Disintegration and Wish ruined my life. Black Metal took me out of my original comfort zone and Swans helped me put an esoteric, abstract artistic expression on all of it;
What are your main goals in life?
At this point, it has nothing to do with music at all. I'm just trying to keep the bills paid, the animals fed, off grid, non wasteful and independent from corporations/civilization as realistically possible.
What motivates you to create?
I'm a workaholic, I've got shit in my brain I wouldn't wish on most people. It sounds stupid and cliche, but I don't really have an easy time living inside my own head a lot of the time. Music is one of the only things that alleviates my constant anxiety, worry, self doubt, etc.
Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
My wife works a second shift schedule, so I'm a 10am-2am kind of person these days. I'll happily sleep until 2pm if that was a possibility, it's just not.
Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
Again, I'd have to go In Utero, or that late 80s or early 90s Cure era stuff. They're both a perfect mix of noise and ethereal bliss. I hope what I've been creating with this project kind of speaks for itself in both of those regards.
What is the best decade for music?
Let's just cheat and say 1985 to 1995. I think that's pretty self explanatory, as stated many times in this interview.
What do your future plans include?
I'm just going to keep making records with my dozen or so projects, enjoy time with my family, print t-shirts, raise animals and grow food.
