Flowers/Ghosts&Echoes operates as a meeting point with sound and image moving alongside one another, shaping a shared language in real time. The project brings together the intuitive interplay of two guitars with a visual practice that responds as much as it directs, creating an environment where presence matters as much as structure.
Flow //// State___, the project’s second release, unfolds as a single continuous piece, stretching across 37 minutes without interruption. Recorded live in a vast, empty church in The Hague, the setting becomes inseparable from the result. The acoustics linger inside every note, allowing tones to expand and dissolve naturally, giving the music its sense of scale and patience.
The guitars drift between recognizable and abstract, and overall, there’s a steady pull toward introspection and wistfulness, carried by a sensitivity to space and duration. As the piece progresses, the density gradually loosens. The closing offers a brief sense of lift before the sound fades, leaving the space complete and resonant.
This is an improvising guitar dialogue between Gonçalo Oliveira (Portugal) and James A.-McEwan (Greece/Scotland), brought to life through the performative visual work of Felix Bodin.
