Where Are We Now by A Place To Bury Strangers

Darkenin Heart

Rare and Deadly is more like an audio snapshot than a compilation, illustrating how sound takes shape before solidifying into something complete. That concept is central to the release, and anything that emerges from A Place to Bury Strangers' never-ending inventive creation is always worth examining for its excellence, since this is a band that always has something meaningful to say.

Somewhere between memory and static lies Where Are We Now, the third single and video from their upcoming rarities album, Rare And Deadly, out April 3rd via Dedstrange.

The past endures, not so much as anything definite and fixed, but as something continuously evolving. In its introspective tone, the song brings forward questions without solutions, relationships frayed by time, and a distant sense that somewhere along the road, the future we anticipated silently unraveled into something totally different.

Ackermann says the song is about “looking back at friends you lost touch with. Wondering where they ended up. Remembering when everything felt possible.”

The accompanying video, assembled by Ackermann, uses footage from the Library of Congress National Archives. He explains he made it because “I think we need to look at people more and see the value and wonder of life so we can be compassionate towards others."
