Heroes and Villains by Mourning Candle

Darkenin Heart

Mourning Candle returns with Heroes and Villains, bringing a sharper edge to their sound while preserving its weight. The Nashville-based duo, Leslie I. Benson and Anson Taylor, move further into industrial territory, letting the textures grow rougher and more immediate.

The track holds a steady intensity. Guitars cut through deep electronic layers, as the rhythm leans into a mechanical pulse that feels disciplined yet on the point of unraveling. Benson’s vocal presence anchors the track, delivered with clarity and restraint. The single traces a line through tension and contradiction, and around that, the composition keeps things in motion, balancing repetition with shifts that keep everything unsettled.

Produced, mixed, and mastered by Nick McLaren of STATIC STUDIOS, the new piece brings a cohesion that emphasizes on intensity and roughness. There’s a trace of late nineties electro-industrial influence in its structure, carried forward in a way that feels methodical.

Heroes and Villains embraces its own tension, boldly establishing and maintaining it.
