Following last year’s acclaimed second album Weltschmerz, Avfall return with the two-track single The Eternal / Psyche.
Recorded outside Berlin’s Berghain, The Eternal confronts life as an endless Sisyphean cycle. Linus Segerstedt of True Moon supplies the guitar, adding a dark, cutting edge to the song’s stark gothic pop. Its shadowy atmospherics steadily close in, giving the track an affecting emotional weight.
On the reverse, Psyche moves deeper into abstraction. Inspired by Martin Rev and krautrock, the track pairs hypnotic electronics with a poetic proclamation from Emma Lundenmark. Sound and language dissolve into psychic automatism, summoning the faint presence of forgotten deities.
