Death Mag by Bizou

Darkenin Heart

Los Angeles synthpop/shoegaze outfit Bizou return with Death Mag, the first single and emotional center of their forthcoming EP, Widow. The track meditates on the futility of suicide through lush, immersive production, holding its darkest subject matter inside music that feels expansive and strangely luminous.

Dense synthesizers, gauzy guitars and post punk tension converge in Bizou’s characteristic sound. The beauty of Death Mag carries a great deal of sentimentality, creating a space where despair can be examined without being romanticized. The result is severe and enveloping, balancing weight with a sense of hard-won perspective.

Widow emerged after a period in which the band’s members dispersed into other creative pursuits. Nicole Fiorentino toured internationally with Garbage, Josiah Mazzaschi formed the indie and new wave project Child Seat, and Marisa Prietto co-wrote an album with Some Ember’s Dylan Travis. In summer 2025, Mazzaschi and Prietto reunited at Cave Studio to begin writing and recording Bizou’s first new material since 2021’s Tragic Lover.

Formed in 2017, Bizou bring together musicians associated with Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt, Garbage, Wax Idols, Glaare and Light FM, although their identity has always rested more on shared chemistry than individual history. Across Widow, they push beyond shoegaze into industrial music, trip hop, synthwave and experimental pop, embracing sharp contrasts and unexpected detours. The EP arrives September 25th, 2026.
