Too Cool by A Very Special Episode

Darkenin Heart

On Too Cool, A Very Special Episode step into the depleted morning after the rush, when adrenaline has drained away and the previous night begins to look different. The Brooklyn trio describe the song as the “shadowy reflection” of “But I’m a… Starr”—a depressive comedown from an extreme high, accompanied by the sudden clarity that arrives once the noise subsides.

Where the earlier track thrives on entitlement, attention and exaggerated self-belief, Too Cool dismantles that pose. Attraction gives way to uncertainty and imagined connection turns into distance.

A taut rhythm keeps the song moving while serrated guitars cloud its danceable core, placing it somewhere between post punk propulsion, shoegaze abrasion and bruised alternative rock.

Too Cool appears as the closing track on A Very Special Episode’s new self-titled EP, AVSE, completing a five-song sequence that begins with its brighter, more brazen counterpart, and overall makes a cohesive unit.
