Angelenophobe by More Ephemerol

Darkenin Heart

Los Angeles synth duo More Ephemerol make an incredible return with Angelenophobe, a piece built from civic affection and sharpened frustration. C. Fjerstad and Tamara Sky turn the endless criticism aimed at their home into a direct declaration of loyalty. They describe it as a song for anyone who continues to love a widely misunderstood city.

"If you live in a city that gets a lot of hate, but you love your city, this song is an anthem for you. It's the only proper new song we've put out this year and it's more aggressive than our usual," they explain.

More forceful than the duo’s usual minimal synthpop, Angelenophobe adds driving bass guitar to their established combination of analogue synthesizers and drum machines. Dual vocals sustain the track’s confrontational energy, giving its classic minimal wave foundation a more physical edge.

The lyrics move between English and Spanish, reflecting the cultural character of Los Angeles rather than treating the city as a simple backdrop. L.A. is complex, contradictory and alive, and the people who belong to it do not require outsiders’ approval. More Ephemerol make clear that the hate can remain outside.
