New York dreampop duo Phantom Handshakes summon a gentler world on Wisdom, a slow-burning shoegaze track from their forthcoming EP, Standing By. Federica Tassano and Matt Sklar envelop the song in lo-fi haze, allowing its prayerful mood to emerge gradually through layers of soft distortion and spectral melody.
The band describes Wisdom as "a sort of pagan prayer to a pagan god." They continue: "It is an appeal to a supernatural force to descend upon the earth in the form of dust and seep into our skin, making humanity less petty and cruel, and more wise and generous. A plea for a miracle."
It registers as a search for the kind of miracle the world seems increasingly unable to produce for itself.
That yearning gives the track its emotional gravity. In this strong single, Phantom Handshakes let the music smolder, turning shoegaze texture into an atmosphere of vulnerability and fragile hope.
Wisdom appears on Standing By, out October 22nd, 2026.
