Erosion by Adam Miller

Darkenin Heart

A little after the publication of Chromatics' breakup, the band's founding member and guitarist Adam Miller announces debut album Gateway, out February 11th, 2022 via Inner Magic. The new album was recorded at the artist's Los Angeles home studio, mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Slowdive), and it's composed of 18 meditational pieces intended to sit at the 'gateway' between dream and reality.

First single Erosion arrives with a video directed by Bernhard Schwartz. It's an experimental atmospheric track which introduces the album's ethereal identity.

Miller comments on Erosion and its accompanying video: “Since the early 2000’s I have been heavily inspired by the work of French fashion photographer Guy Bourdin, not only his editorial photographs but also his short films. I love how his films are just these brief, dreamy moments caught by the camera; and because of the limitations of technology there are always irremovable layers of grit embedded in them. Memories eventually become eroded by the grit of time and often all that we are left with is the memory of a memory. Nothing is eternal except for nothing - that concept used to torture me but now it brings me peace.”

The artists also explains that most of the track's on the new album were initially written as meditations: “When I’m in a good workflow, I usually start my day off by just picking up a guitar, zoning out, and recording whatever is passing through the quantum field at the time. It’s a visceral process. I’m not even really paying attention to what I’m doing as I’m recording. I’m usually at my purest creatively at the very beginning of the day, and over the years, I’ve recorded whatever happens in the moment and then organized that material into a library that I’ve continued to draw from.”
