What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
I wrote this song for a friend's mom who passed to be played at her funeral. I think imagining myself in that extremely disparaging situation really took me to a place where there is happiness in remembrance but completely flooded with layers and layers of sadness.
How would you characterize your own music?
From the heart.
What are your musical aspirations?
Just to continue to be able to play music and write songs really.
What are your main musical inspirations?
Memories of live shows and performances. These things happen again from time to time but it has been limited at the moment. I really like live music so I haven't had as many chances as before.
What are your main goals in life?
To learn or experience something foreign to me.
What motivates you to create?
The experiences I've had. When you see something beautiful you want to share that wonder or discover something else that is wonderful.
Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
I wake up super early and can't barely sleep. I always want to be doing something. If there is a long plane ride or something I can sleep because there is nothing better to do.
Besides music, what other art forms would you like to explore?
I love to paint, make movies, build my surroundings, design robots, silkscreen, woodcut, lasers.
Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
I'm sure some Beatles record. I don't know which one but I remember dancing with my parents in their living room and it just feeling like the world was a cartoon.
What is the best decade for music?
The next decade.
What do your future plans include?
I'm working on a bunch of designs for all sorts of things and I hope to finish some and have more and more designs as those are coming to fruition. Death By Audio has a lot of new pedal designs about to come out and we are always working on more. A Place To Bury Strangers is recording a lot of music and planning many concerts. Dedstrange is releasing a lot of really cool records on our record label. All of these things would not be possible without the help of all the great friends and artists I have around me and of course my fiance Heather.
