Brighton’s Shady Baby are the latest discovery and signing of Nice Swan Records, a label known for their search for exciting new talent, having previously brought to the light bands like Pip Blom, Sprints and Deadletter among many others. Come To Life is the band's first single.
Sam Leaver of Shady Baby was influenced by the sounds of Madchester and Britpop, and with a passion for John Cooper Clarke, he began crafting his unique style of emotional indie pop during the peak of lockdown. His songs were developed out of feelings of frustration while isolated in his bedroom. Working together with Brighton-based producer Theo Verney (English Teacher, FEET, FUR, Egyptian Blue, TRAAMS), the creative pair forged a strong musical relationship.
Leaver comments on Shady Baby's first single: “‘Come To Life’ is an angry response to feeling like people treated you like shit but you let them get away with it. Feeling both angry at them but also at yourself for letting it happen.”
