Asylum by Spirits of Leo

Darkenin Heart

New York post-punk/shoegaze band, Spirits of Leo, deliver the third and final single from Gossamer Blue, their upcoming album. The new song Asylum was written and produced by Ryan Santos Phillips who has been the band's main songwriter and producer since their early days.

With The Chameleons, The Cure and Cocteau Twins being mentioned by the band as some of their main inspirations, the new song continues the brooding post punk route that Spirits of Leo have created with their prior works while still indicating a new sonic region for them, evoking the ambience of early 4AD and Fiction Records-era goth.

Phillips describes: “Asylum for me addresses obsessions, compulsions and intrusive thoughts, things I’ve struggled to keep at bay since I was very young. It’s very much about finding safety in a place where your inner demons oppress and control you, and finding shelter from relentless ruminations.”

Gossamer Blue will be released from DC/LA label à La Carte Records on August 12th, 2022.
