Deru aka Benjamin Wynn's new album We Will Live On, recorded in a vacant missile silo in Los Angeles against the background of the endless downturns we've been undergoing over the last two years, pursues contextual explorations of humans and technology through Yamaha Disklavier piano motifs not natural to human hands.
With this concept being especially clear on the new single The Rain, Deru seems to be at his most incisive.
The fluctuating clicks of the piano playing display an immediacy reminiscent of classic works by Steve Reich and Philip Glass, as well as contemporaries such as Hauschka or Erik Hall, with patterns based on geometry rather than equal divisions of a measure, most common for western music.
The album is out on October 28th, 2022 via Friends of Friends.
