Goodbye Ranger is a new dreampop project by Andrew Saks, the guitarist and multi-instrumentalist of SWAY and FLDPLN, and vocalist Gwendolyn. Memories and the Sky, the group's self-titled debut album, is an excellent example of dreampop and shoegaze combined.
The title track of the album establishes the tone for the dreamy environment that the full-length maintains for the rest of its entirety. It's marked by hazy guitar tones, gentle dual vocals, and fine lyrics. The intense fuzz also helps to create a pretty engaging ambience.
Remember Everything gives off the impression of a classic shoegaze track, defining Goodbye Ranger's sound and showcasing the group's incredible songwriting skills.
Fortunately, the album continues to stick out because it provides more lovely dreaminess and sounds really cohesive. At the same time, it demonstrates Goodbye Ranger's versatility and affinity for genre classics like Swirlies, Slowdive, Cocteau Twins, Dinosaur Jr., and My Bloody Valentine.
