Walking in a Vacuum by test plan

Darkenin Heart

Following the release of their first single, London's test plan introduces their new song and accompanying music video, Walking in a Vacuum. The release is scheduled for March 26th, 2024, accompanied by their headline single launch event on March 29th at Paper Dress Vintage, London, featuring performances by in violet and Brides.

The new single, recorded and mixed by Darren Jones (Fat Dog, The Fall, Gorillaz) in the band’s own north-east London practice space, is a powerful expression of existential despair fused with a profound appreciation for loudness. It combines fierce guitar riffs and pulsating rhythms driven by intense vocals, creating a compelling sound as a whole.

“There’s a lot to be said for resilience in life and for grinning and bearing it.” says drummer/vocalist Max Mason. “This can feel psychotic when scientists warn of ecological disaster and political leaders persistently uphold the qualities of incompetent narcissists. [Walking in a] Vacuum dances with this notion of pushing your emotions down and letting the world swallow you up. It’s a dance song about over-thinking and surrender, when maybe you should be doing neither.”

The music video, created entirely in-house by Mason who handled filming, editing, animation, and direction, adeptly presents the essence of the song's themes, emphasizing the idea of resilience amidst chaos and ambivalence.

Mason comments: “It was a deliberate effort to be artistic and wanted it to feel as if it were a performance art in a gallery space. It was an attempt to make something that looked sort of cursed or horrifying without actually doing anything blatantly to make it so. The animated touches were a way to add an extra layer of mysticism; colour and playfulness to our otherwise angsty performances.”
