Hunger is the standout post hardcore track that anchors Russian Bath’s upcoming second album, Mirror, set for release on June 14th, 2024, via Good Eye Records. The song was mixed by Jeff Berner (Psychic TV, Activity, Stuy) and mastered by Sarah Register (Protomartyr, Kim Gordon, Wye Oak), with production contributions from Walter Schreifels of Quicksand, Rival Schools, and Gorilla Biscuits.
"We recorded this at Walter Schreifels' place upstate. He suggested we put the guitar hook first. I'm glad we did," says the band's guitarist and vocalist Luke Koz. "Jess wrote the progression sitting on the floor alternating two chord shapes in an odd tuning in practice. I wanted the vocals to be exceedingly intimate, especially in the second verse. I wanted everything to be exact and totally audible in the quietest and loudest moments, almost uncomfortably close."
The song expertly combines noise rock and shoegaze elements to produce a powerful, intricate arrangement that delicately strikes a balance between devotion and detachment.
