NITE Fill The Darkenin Heart Questionnaire
September 24, 2024
What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
For us, the first thing that comes to mind is Joy Division's song, Isolation. This is our first experience with Post-Punk music and it really impacted us being so young and hearing an echo of a cry for help decades before our time.
We picked up a used CD of “Closer” at a store without even knowing what it sounded like. We just loved the artwork and we have heard their name by researching bands off of Napster.
The production value of the album was something our young ears were not accustomed to so it felt so raw, unpolished, grounded, and personal.
The line
“Mother, I tried, please believe me
I'm doing the best that I can
I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through
I'm ashamed of the person I am"
It broke my heart when I heard this line.
How would you characterize your own music?
Being able to convey our music by genre has been helpful to connect with our listeners. Spotify has deemed us Dark Wave/ Alternative/ Synthpop/ Dark Synth/ Post-Punk. I love all of those descriptors and this has been helpful for us to know what community of music listeners we belong to.
To us each song comes from different emotional places so it’s been hard to characterize ourselves, we may have an artist’s veil and we’ve always been interested in how other people respond to our music.
What are your musical aspirations?
We would absolutely love to tour and play shows in Europe!
What are your main musical inspirations?
Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure - 80’s
Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins- 90’s
Interpol, The Presets, Cut Copy, The Faint, White Lies - 00’s
What are your main goals in life?
We would absolutely love to keep music a career focus in our lives for as long as possible, never to be jaded, and to always find contentment wherever we are willed to be. We would love to be happy old men someday!
What motivates you to create?
Creating music is emotional and spiritual for us. Almost daily we sit to write a song and we might catch something that we really think is special. More often than not we go out and cast our nets to the sea of creativity and come up with nothing. So we just keep casting till we find something musical that we feel fulfills us creatively. It’s a big high for us to complete a full song!
Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
If I had to pick one I might side with more of a night owl when I feel most creative. However we really are both the early bird and the night owl.
Besides music, what other art forms would you like to explore?
I think it would be really cool to explore animation or creating art in a similar way video games are made.
Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
Queen: A Night At The Opera —This was the first record we heard from start to finish that wasn’t just a greatest hits record. It has a flow with lots of surprises. The opening piano piece to Death on Two Legs is incredible. I can still hear it without listening to it!
What is the best decade for music?
I’m unsure, I think I enjoy more artists from the 00's and beyond because there are so many more visible artists out there starting from this point on. Spotify makes it pretty easy to deep dive and I spend a lot of time discovering new bands. It is truly much easier to look back in time to see what albums, bands, songs stood the test of time. If I had to look back and pick a decade it might have to be the 80’s.
What do your future plans include?
Our dream for next year is to have a full length album and more amazing tour and show opportunities. We are working on it! :)
