Kerosene by Luna Honey
November 18, 2024
Luna Honey, a dark post punk trio born in Washington, DC's DIY scene in 2017, has since planted its roots in Philadelphia. Comprising Maura Pond, Benjamin Schurr, and Levi Flack, Luna Honey has forged collaborations with legendary figures like Norman Westberg of Swans and Big Paul Ferguson of Killing Joke, expanding their artistry with each release.
Their sixth album, Bound, arrives on November 22nd, 2024, led by the single Kerosene. It stays true to the band's commitment to creative experimentation while venturing into even darker emotional territory.
In just seven years, Luna Honey's journey has been as tumultuous as it has been productive. The pandemic forced the trio to navigate physical distance, with Pond relocating to her hometown of Richmond, VA, to be near family, soon followed by Schurr. Despite the distance, the band maintained their creative momentum, resulting in the album Parables, which captured the spirit of isolation and collaboration across those cities.
Tragedy struck three months after Pond's return to Richmond when she lost her mother to a decade-long battle with cancer. In her grief, she found solace in the solo work of Norman Westberg, which sparked an unexpected collaboration that culminated in the previous album, Aftermath, a profound and atmospheric meditation on loss and legacy.
Bound continues their tradition of experimentation and evolution. Each track is unique, showcasing the band's willingness to follow inspiration wherever it leads. Luna Honey is unafraid to explore the unexpected, refusing to be tethered to a single sound.
"I had listened to a story of a dire betrayal by someone's friend, and was thinking about how we can have moments in our lives that feel like everything has burned to the ground, yet outwardly, so little has changed," says Maura Pond.
