Pretend to Be a Dog (Gamelle) by Stuffed Foxes
November 24, 2024
Tours-based band Stuffed Foxes, known for their post-psych and shoegaze sound, are preparing to release their third album, Standardized, on December 6th, 2024. It is a collaboration between Bristol’s Stolen Body Records and two French labels, Reverse Tapes and Figures Libres. They've unveiled the first single, Pretend to Be a Dog (Gamelle), along with an accompanying video.
Back in 2022, Stuffed Foxes solidified their status as a major force in the French rock scene with their double album Songs / Revolving and Songs / Motion Return. With Standardized, they’re building on that momentum. The new album was recorded live in Rennes with producer and musician Thomas Poli at the helm. Renowned engineer Matt Colton handled the mastering.
Standardized marks a pivotal moment for Stuffed Foxes who have managed to refine their sound, pushing beyond the boundaries of genre to create mature identity of their own.
Stuffed Foxes comment on the new single: "We started jamming this song during a residency in Orléans. The idea was to craft powerful, crashing sound waves interspersed with moments of calm and melody. These bursts were thrilling to play, and the main theme grew richer over time with the six of us contributing to the overall texture. This may be the track we are most proud of, with each of us expressing ourselves and fitting together. For the end of the song, Simon played a raw, noise-driven bassline, and we decided to push it to the forefront in an extreme way, weaving these clear guitar patterns around it."
