The song's dynamic contrasts, which flow naturally from choruses covered in layers of distortion to verses embellished with shimmering reverb, draw in. The band's expansive instrumentation blends well with the dreamlike intimacy of Annika Devlin's guest vocals from Frown Line.
The band's distinctive sound based on wavy guitars, expanding drums, and gentle, airy vocals is laid out in the luscious and immersing composition of their latest single. With Stay, Fleeting Colours add their own unique, contemporary edge while still capturing the spirit of traditional shoegaze.
The single was recorded and produced by the band’s singer, guitarist, and studio drummer, Seamus Hickey. For the final mix, they reunited with producer and engineer Jeff Zeigler, known for his work with Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs, Nothing, Swirlies, and Knifeplay.
