The Out by Princess Ugly
September 17, 2025
Princess Ugly from Portland, Oregon, the collaborative project of J. Christopher-Rome (words/vocals) and Christopher Moncrieffe (music/instruments), has developed from Christopher-Rome's solo outfit to a fully realized act with a significant catalog already under their belt.
Cat Powell-Hoffmann who is a frequent collaborator of Princess Ugly offers additional vocals on their new single The Out, a track that is based on themes of emotional detachment and inner conflict. The song offers a stark, introspective portrait of someone wrestling with meaning and regret.
Princess Ugly offer their statement on the new single: "Dark days. We feel buried under endless unnerving headlines. We cling to past mistakes and regrets. We romanticize. We make excuses. We look for clarity and resolution, often finding neither.
Even as the things we perceive as negative can sometimes light our way with an unsettling brilliance, we look away. Tear it all up. Everyone is looking for their out.
The Out is presented in a jigsaw puzzle arrangement of staccato notes intended to motivate people to dance with existential reflection and find their escape."
