Swedish electro-punk duo The Guilt are back with Red Light, released via Icons Creating Evil Art, the final single before their highly anticipated new album. The track was sparked by a snarling riff that guitarist Lizzy brought to rehearsal, joking that “Emma will hate.” But once Emma Wahlgren’s vocals and impeccable sense of rhythm entered the mix, Red Light quickly became a standout.
What followed was a playful back-and-forth songwriting dance, the kind of creative tug-of-war that defines The Guilt’s signature sound.
Coming on the heels of October’s Dance to the Revolution (2025 Version), a fresh take on their underground classic, and their two earlier singles this year, Red Light keeps the momentum building toward their new full-length.
Red Light is a powerful showcase of human carelessness and resilience, diving headfirst into danger while somehow continuing to dance. It is passionate, conscious, and hard not to get involved with it immediately.
“Life is scary, yes?” the band says. “Red Light is about the signs of warning, the obvious don’ts that we seek out as the dumb, adorable pieces of mammals we are. We stare right into the eye of the red light and keep going. We manage more than we think — even when we’re suffering, even when we’re just being stupid — we get on with it. Some of you might just do it for the rush though…”
“Maybe Red Light is a support-song for myself,” Emma reflects. “Because I see a lot of red lights just waking up in the morning. I still want to go places — so I do, even if there are 500 reasons not to.”
