Violet Grey by Chalice Sect

Darkenin Heart

New track Violet Grey sees Los Angeles darkwave project Chalice Sect pushing further into the void, twisting their established post punk edge into something more volatile and ceremonial. Taking influence from early post punk, new wave, and flashes of nineties dance music, the track moves with a cold, club-style pulse, being notably moody and melancholic. It’s dance-inclined, and steeped in darkness.

The real rupture comes through the vocals which this time are raw, and often deliberately distorted, as they cut through the mix with an almost ritualistic intensity. At moments, Violet Grey feels like a dark rite unfolding under strobe lights. Chalice Sect lean into discomfort, and the result is a track that feels ominous and daring.
