Burned House by This House

Darkenin Heart

Burned House arrives as the second single from This House’s forthcoming debut album Soft Rains Will Come, due on Pink Cotton Candy Records. Fronted by G.W. Sok, the iconic singer and poet who helped define Dutch post punk with The Ex, the band leans far beyond name recognition. The track itself is a striking piece of poetic storytelling, unfolding an eerie narrative of a woman eating her final breakfast as flames creep through her collapsing home, each familiar object dissolving in a strangely lucid calm.

The music mirrors the tension of Burned House. The track features an odd shuffle groove, a glitchy and powerful synth bass line, and a deep kick drum to keep everything balanced. The song builds gradually with distortion and harsh slide guitar stabs, culminating in an overpowering closing chorus. It’s an off‑kilter composition, one that rewards listeners who crave intensity, atmosphere, and emotional weight in their post punk.

The accompanying video, directed by This House member Ignacio Córdoba, explores the song's surrealism through rustic scenery, wistful textures, experimental visuals, and a dry sense of humor. A model house opens to reveal the band performing inside its miniature rooms, as if conjuring the fire themselves, a visual echo of the song’s claustrophobic feel.

Each member brings a distinct creative lineage to this band. G.W. Sok has a long career which has been celebrated by the underground scenes. Spanish‑born, Copenhagen‑based Ignacio Córdoba is a producer and experimentalist whose work spans noise, jazz, and electronic music. Søren Høi stands out as one of Denmark’s most inventive drummers, and Kristian Tangvik contributes his synthesizer work and improvisational instincts from Copenhagen’s avant‑garde circles.
