Ultraviolet by Nausicaa

Darkenin Heart

Naarm/Melbourne trio Nausicaa has returned with a new single, Ultraviolet, the first taste of their upcoming first album, which will be released on May 2nd, 2026. The track recalls a late-night Tokyo city haze, influenced by Sofia Coppola's seminal film Lost in Translation.

When Nausicaa initially formed, it was a two-piece band with Kristen on bass and vocals and Dave on guitar and programming. They created a sound that was characterized by dreamlike soundscapes, slow-burning ambiance, and quiet sadness. With the entrance of drummer Cam in the middle of 2025, the dynamic changed and the project began to take on a more evolving and forward-thinking identity.

Ultraviolet, which was totally recorded and produced by the band, embodies the immediacy that has come to define Nausicaa's character. The arrangement has a genuine live vitality to it, allowing times of abrasion and beauty to coexist together. What this leads to is a work that perfectly illustrates the group's aptitude for balance, with deliberate dissonance, lingering melodic resonance, and an atmosphere that doesn't fade.
