Unlettered continue to blur the lines between noise rock abrasion, garage rock directness and shoegaze atmosphere on Before::After, the second single lifted from the forthcoming album Devil’s Bowl.
Rooted in the grime and momentum of New York’s underground scene, the track captures the split second where everything feels inevitable but still somehow unreal. “Before::After is about what happens at the threshold, the moment just before everything changes,” the band explain. “You can feel it coming but you can’t stop it. The ground shifts and suddenly you’re living in the after whether you’re ready or not.”
Driven by postpunk rhythms and distorted guitars that barely contain the chaos, Before::After feels both hard hitting and strangely immediate. Unlettered balance rawness with melody in a way that doesn't soften the impact, as a distinctly physical energy seems to be running through the single as a whole. The band’s years immersed in NYC’s underground circuit are etched into the track’s core, shaping a sound that feels gritty and pure.
