Winnipeg duo sundayclub continue the rollout for their debut album SUNDAYCLUB with the release of Sad Summer, a track that captures the uncertainty and emotional drift of early adulthood with clarity.
Drawing from indie rock and shoegaze, the song pairs dreamy textures with introspective songwriting, turning feelings of isolation and stagnation into something quietly affecting. Rather than searching for easy answers, Sad Summer sits comfortably within its melancholy, embracing vulnerability and emotional honesty.
Written during a period of social withdrawal and creative frustration, Sad Summer began as a stream of unfiltered thoughts before taking shape as one of the album’s emotional cornerstones.
“‘Sad Summer’ came about as a result of feeling extremely unmotivated, both to create and to socialise,” explains vocalist Courtney Carmichael. “The chorus just kept repeating itself: ‘Sad summer, it's a sad summer.’ Everything about the song felt candid because we didn't shy away from exposing that inner dialogue of feeling tired, down and disconnected. There's something freeing about being that direct.”
As another preview of SUNDAYCLUB, arriving July 10th, 2026 via Paper Bag Records, the single highlights the duo's ability to transform personal uncertainty into immersive, emotionally resonant songwriting.
