Nashville artists Mourning Candle and HxvsFly join forces on Ashes, a darkwave collaboration about letting go, surviving destruction and finding the strength to begin again.
Written in response to a year shaped by personal strain, political turmoil and the pressures of capitalism, the single captures the moment when endurance gives way to refusal. The song focuses on the idea that sometimes survival means burning everything down, walking away and trusting that something new will eventually grow beneath the wreckage.
Mourning Candle, the duo of composer and guitarist Anson Taylor and vocalist and lyricist Leslie Irene Benson, bring their shadowy, emotionally charged songwriting into contact with HxvsFly’s fusion of darkwave, post punk and electronic dance music. Their shared sensibilities give Ashes a suitably scorched atmosphere, balancing grief and exhaustion with the possibility of renewal.
