Southeast London project The Pixel Rain reveal Sacrifice, the opening track from their forthcoming debut album, A Sense of Danger. The single is an invitation into the record’s post-apocalyptic world while expanding the project’s industrial foundations with cyberpunk and synthwave-inspired electronics.
Driven by mechanical rhythms, dark textures and prominent synth leads, Sacrifice brings forward the project's melodic instincts, being cold and forceful without sacrificing immediacy, and at the same time establishes the atmosphere of a record concerned with power, authority, consumerism and mounting social unease.
Hungarian-born songwriter and project founder Áron Siegler says: “‘Sacrifice’ started with the idea of modern-day false messiahs and how easily charisma can be mistaken for truth. As online platforms continue to blur the line between genuine guidance and performance, I found myself drawn to the psychology behind people who build influence by promising transformation. That idea felt like the perfect companion to the track's cold, mechanical, electronic atmosphere.
“Like many of my songs, 'Sacrifice' started with a visual idea rather than a musical one. I was inspired by the worlds of Neuromancer and Cyberpunk 2077, and that atmosphere naturally led to a synth-heavy sound. From there, I mixed melodic influences from bands like Depeche Mode and Muse with the industrial pulse and textures of Nine Inch Nails and Ministry.”
Created by Ádám Molnár, the accompanying lyric video imagines Sacrifice as a computer virus gradually taking control of the viewer’s screen. A digitized version of Siegler’s head appears amid hypnotic imagery, drawing its target further inside the manufactured reality.
Following The Pixel Rain’s self-titled 2023 EP, Sacrifice offers the first substantial glimpse into A Sense of Danger, scheduled for release in late October.
