Pathways by Eric Angelo Bessel

Darkenin Heart

There is no single route through the beautiful and serene Pathways. Eric Angelo Bessel’s new piece moves by suggestion, allowing small shifts in tone and texture to redirect the listener through a landscape that feels simultaneously physical and imagined. Built from softly layered guitars, mellotron hues and analog treatments, it possesses the momentum of light traveling across an empty stretch of land.

The track belongs to Illusion of an Inland Ocean, an eighteen-part work conceived as a network of connected places. Across the album, overlooked roads, aging structures and the persistence of nature become recurring markers, resurfacing in altered forms and gradually revealing relationships that were hidden in plain sight.

For Bessel, who works across composition, production, photography and design, sound is only one element of a broader visual and conceptual practice. The self-produced Illusion of an Inland Ocean finds him widening that practice into an immersive study of how places are remembered, transformed and rediscovered.
