Bed Maker return with The Mark, the A-side of a new two-song single released through Dischord Records. Paired with What Boy Where, the track continues the band’s practice of transforming observations of everyday life into direct examinations of social failure.
Both songs were prompted by instances of unequal treatment and the deeper negligence behind them.
The band says: "Like many of our songs, “The Mark” and “What Boy Where” are crafted from observations of life. These two songs were fueled by examples of inequity in the treatment of people or the abject negligence to see a person and their value to the world."
Bed Maker formed in 2019 when bassist Arthur Noll and drummer Vin Novara, formerly of Alarms & Controls, began collaborating with guitarist Jeff Barsky. Vocalist Amanda MacKaye joined soon afterward, completing a lineup whose chemistry was immediate. Their self-titled debut album arrived through Dischord in 2024, recorded by Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio. The new single was recorded by Ian MacKaye and Don Godwin at Tonal Park and marks the next step toward a second album, planned for recording in 2027.
