Formerly known as syrup, go on, Meanjin/Brisbane band SGO follow their Summer 2021 song Lavender Sky with new single Bookcase, a nostalgic and bittersweet homage to ending relationships.
The song was written over a few months in 2021 by Kris Briese and Liz Dick around a somber guitar riff, with the two connecting and engaging over the same experience, having gone through a breakup.
Between archetypal shoegaze and a range of indie and lo-fi rock influences, Bookcase expresses the dichotomy of feelings of relief and regret in an evocative and nostalgic manner.
