Wolfschmidt Fill The Darkenin Heart Questionnaire

Darkenin Heart

What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
Elin: “Smother” by Daughter. It feels like a hug when I'm sad, because it feels like I'm not alone in difficult emotions.

Hampus: “Gwely Mernans" by Aphex Twin. It really locks me up behind a wooden door in a cold concrete basement with a monstrous psychopath pacing the corridor outside the room.

How would you characterize your own music?
As a telepathic interaction with a short grey beside your bed. Breathtaking, kind of terrifying and yet probably the most existentially enlightening experience there is to be had.

What are your musical aspirations?
We’ve never even played a gig with this band yet so that would be a start! The songs we’ve released so far are crafted in a very add-one-piece-to-another-in-the-studio kind of way. We’re excited to get out there and play them live and connect with people.

What are your main musical inspirations?
Really just any kind of strong emotions and nature. Walks around the lake, or lack of sleep. That’s where most of the good and bad ideas tend to reveal themselves.

What are your main goals in life?
Elin: The most important thing to me is to find happiness, play our music live and make music that can affect people.

Hampus: Agreed. And also to hit the drum.

What motivates you to create?
Creating simply gives a sense of purpose. A feeling of ”okay we made this, and as long as we can hit at least one person with it, we made some kind of impact in this world”. You know, then we can pat ourselves on the back and feel like our lives were not a complete waste after all. And while making music is a way of coping with and expressing personal emotions, the sense of ”life not wasted” gets stronger when someone else takes the music to their heart and relates to it. It’s a very beautiful and a very strange kind of connection.

Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
Hampus: Night owl trying to act like an early bird.

Elin: I’m non-birdary. I can operate on no sleep and I can fall asleep at any time.

Besides music, what other art forms would you like to explore?
Hampus: I’ll provide some humble brag for Elin here. She was a promising actor a couple of years back. She got the lead role in a famous Swedish director's upcoming movie. It was all set, they’d had meetings and were about to start working before his cancer suddenly got him. It’s such an unbelievable and tragic story. I think she should give it a shot again.

Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
Elin: We were both big fans of Michael Jackson as kids actually. My parents bought me the Thriller CD when I was around 10 and I was completely stuck on “Beat It”.

Hampus: Yes, my dad had the Dangerous CD back at the house and the cassette in the car. I would nag him about rewinding the tape for “Black or White” so many times he would start yelling.

What is the best decade for music?
The 20’s. Now is the time.

What do your future plans include?
Make more songs, release an album, play at Partille Arena.
